About Us

Dr. Foch M. Smart

Dr. SmartDr. Foch Smart was born and grew up in Metairie, Louisiana (a suburb of New Orleans).  He graduated from the University of New Orleans in Civil Engineering.  He worked as a structural engineer for five years and even became a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) in Louisiana.  He jokes that he took the "trial and error approach" to careers.  As a result, he encourages all of his young patients to spend time with someone actually working in the field they are interested in before going to college!

He attended dental school at LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans and completed a three-year residency in Orthodontics at the University of Tennessee.  Dr. Smart graduated first in his class from Orthodontic Residency and also won the Chairman's Award for Excellence in Orthodontic research.

Dr. Smart truly LOVES his work as an orthodontist!   He says he feels extremely fortunate that he has the opportunity to earn a living doing something he enjoys so much.   He is eternally thankful to his wife Lori for all of the sacrifices she made to allow him to go back to school to pursue a career in Orthodontics.   Dr. Smart says, "I must give glory to God for all He has done for me.   I have been blessed beyond what words can express.   God's grace truly is amazing."

Dr. Smart and his wife Lori have three children (Josh, Melanie and Jonathan) whom they dearly love and feel like have grown up too fast.  They are active members of Vaughn Forest Church and enjoy teaching an LCBF (Sunday School) class and hanging out with the students as much as possible.   Dr. Smart's hobbies are running (reluctantly :) and computers.

SmartSmiles Staff

We have the finest staff an orthodontic office could ask for.

SmartSmiles Staff
      Amy                    Nedra               Dr. Smart                  Erin

Nedra
Nedra is our extraordinarily friendly, good-natured receptionist.  You can hear her smile over the phone when she cheerfully answers calls from patients and parents.  Since she joined us in 2006, she has been a tremendous asset and has truly helped set the tone of the entire office.  Besides being a wonderful receptionist, she also functions as the office decorator.  She is an extremely talented artist and painted the "moose with braces" picture hanging in our reception room.  Nedra and her husband Roy have three college - age sons.

Amy
Amy is amazing.  She has also worked with us since 2006 and has learned more about orthodontics faster than almost anyone we've ever seen.  She is very intelligent and an extremely dedicated worker.  In the time that she has worked with us, Amy has acquired the skills to do most any task we ask her to.  She also accomplishes these tasks better and faster than many assistants who have been working in Orthodontics far longer than she has.  In addition to her clinical and organizational skills, she has also has a consistently positive attitude and is truly a joy to work around.  Amy also is a student at Troy State in Montgomery.

Erin  Erin is the most recent addition to our staff, joining us in 2007.  Erin is a friend and former patient.  We could not be more excited to have her on our team.  She is extremely smart and a very fast learner.  She is also very friendly and pleasant and very detail-oriented (a perfect trait for anyone in an orthodontic office).  Erin is a student at Faulkner University in Montgomery and was married in the fall of 2007.  Erin's dad may have described her best at her wedding reception when he said that she was "energy personified."  Besides working as a clinical assistant on patient days, Erin also puts her organizational and office skills to use in the office on Thursdays.
